Frequently Asked Questions

Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions

 1. What is the minimum investment required for the D2 Visa?
There is no fixed minimum investment for the D2 Visa. However, you must demonstrate that your business is viable and that you have sufficient personal funds to support yourself for at least one year in Portugal (approximately €11,040 based on 2026 figures).

2. Do I need to speak Portuguese to apply?
No, there is no language requirement for the initial D2 visa application. A basic A2 level of Portuguese is required when applying for permanent residency or citizenship after 5 years.

3. How long does the D2 visa process take?
The consulate application process typically takes 60-90 days from submission to approval. After entering Portugal, you must attend an AIMA appointment to receive your residence permit.

4. Can my family join me on the D2 Visa?
Yes, family reunification is allowed. Your spouse and dependent children can join you in Portugal.

5. What is the D2 Visa residence permit validity?
Your residence permit is initially valid for 2 years and can be renewed for 3 years. After 5 years of legal residency, you can apply for permanent residency or citizenship.

6. Are you lawyers?
No. We are visa consultants providing business plan writing and application guidance. We work with partner lawyers for legal filing if required. Our services are consultancy-based, not legal advice.

7. What if my application is rejected?
We help you understand the reasons for rejection and can assist with a revised submission. Our business plans are designed to meet AIMA expectations and minimise rejection risk.

8. What should my D2 business plan include?
A successful D2 business plan includes: executive summary, business description, market analysis with Portuguese data, 3-year financial projections, operational plan, and economic contribution statement.

9. Do I need a Portuguese company before applying?
While not strictly required before the consulate stage, having a registered company in Portugal, a Portuguese NIF, and a local bank account strengthens your application significantly.

10. What is AIMA?
AIMA (Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo) is the Portuguese immigration agency responsible for processing residence permit applications. It replaced SEF in 2024.
